A Perfect Fit – The Surrey Mirror and the Surrey Digital Awards

July 29th, 2014

A ground-breaking new awards scheme that recognises the online achievements of businesses, schools and charities from across Surrey, has been backed by one of the county’s leading newspapers.

The Surrey Digital Awards (SDAs) – which offers gold, silver and bronze prizes for excellence across ten categories – revealed this week that they have entered a partnership with the Surrey Mirror who will support the competition.

It is the first time that organisations from Surrey will be able to compete for a range of accolades based solely upon their work online.

The SDAs will be free to enter and take less than two minutes to complete an online application at surreydigitalawards.co.uk.

‘Use of Social Media’, ‘Website’, ‘Mobile App’ are just three of the categories to be judged by an independent panel of experts from the digital arena.

The award-winning newspaper continues to lead the way on the newstands and surreymirror.co.uk has very quickly become the first choice among Surrey people for breaking news.

Editor, Dee Blaylock, described the SDAs as a “perfect fit” for the Surrey Mirror which attracts hundreds of thousands of visits to its website each month.

“We are at the forefront of breaking news, sharing the biggest stories, giving people the recognition they deserve and holding the authorities to account.

“And joining forces with the SDAs, a fantastic scheme which supports the great work that people from our county are doing on the internet, matches perfectly with where we are now.

“Of course, we still work tirelessly at bringing our readers a great newspaper each week and we will continue to do that, but we also put a lot of effort into our online news offering through our website and social media.

“We recognise the importance of the SDAs and this is the right time and the right place for it.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be the media partner, we’re fully on-board with the SDAs and are looking forward to spreading the word about it.”

The other categories include ‘Use of Video For Business’, ‘Online Marketing Campaign’, ‘School, Education or Charity Website’, ‘Responsive Website’, ‘Small Business Website’ and the blue ribbon accolade for ‘Online Business’.

Iain Johnson, from Premio64, the organisation behind the awards said: “We are very excited about working with a media group with the stature of the Surrey Mirror. To have an award winning newspaper brand, which is leading the way with its online news service, is a superb fit for us.”

The closing date for entries will be January 9, 2015 and a special awards evening will be held in March.
